Sharron Acosta, M.D., F.A.C.S. | Ophthalmologist | San Antonio TX | Seguin TX | New Braunfels TXDr. Acosta graduated with Honors from the University of Texas with a bachelor's degree in Biology. She completed her medical training at the University of California, Los Angeles. While at UCLA she did a post junior fellowship in the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine. Dr. Acosta performed her internship in Internal Medicine in Los Angeles before returning to Texas.She completed her Ophthalmology Residency at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio. She served as Chief Resident in her final year at UTHSCSA and currently maintains her connections with the University as an Assistant Clinical Professor of Ophthalmology.

Dr. Acosta formed Eye Associates of Seguin in 2001. Since then the office has grown to include other locations in the South Texas area. As an eye physician and surgeon, Dr. Acosta offers comprehensive eye care for a wide age range. She performs cataract surgery with the new astigmatism and presbyopia correcting intraocular lenses, and laser treatment for many eye diseases including diabetic retinopathy and glaucoma. Dr. Acosta is a member of various organizations for medicine and ophthalmology including the American Academy of ophthalmology, the American College of Surgeons, and the Texas Medical Association. She has also held positions in the local medical community, including secretary on the board and past president of the Guadalupe Medical Society.

Joseph Terrence Kavanagh, M.D.

Joseph Terrence Kavanagh, M.D. | Ophthalmologist | San Antonio TX | Seguin TX | New Braunfels TXDr. Kavanagh joined Eye Associates of South Texas in 2001. He received his medical degree from the University of Nottingham Medical School. Dr. Kavanagh completed his residency in Ophthalmology and fellowship in Glaucoma at the University of Texas Health Sciences Center in San Antonio. Dr. Kavanagh is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at the UTHSC San Antonio, and was Chief of Ophthalmology at the Kerrville VAMC for over ten years.

During his career Dr. Kavanagh has helped train many ophthalmologists now in practice though out the United States. Dr. Kavanagh is respected for his surgical skills by his patients and peers. He is known for performing no needle no stitch, micro-incision (1/10 inch) cataract surgery, allowing patients to return to normal activities quickly. He has performed well over ten thousand cataract procedures. Dr. Kavanagh has also designed surgical instruments for Storz to improve the efficiency and safety of cataract surgery.

Dr. Kavanagh has lectured on the subject of glaucoma and cataracts locally, and at national meetings and internationally and has authored numerous research publications. Dr. Kavanagh is happy to serve the South Texas community with the most up to date technology and surgical techniques available in ophthalmology.

Jon Hager, M.D.

Jon Hager, M.D. | Ophthalmologist | San Antonio TX | Seguin TX | New Braunfels TXDr. Hager joined Eye Associates of South Texas in 2016. He is a native to South Central Texas and enjoys serving the medical needs of this area. He received his medical degree from the Baylor College of Medicine with honors and was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha honors society. Dr. Hager completed his residency in Ophthalmology at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.

Dr. Hager specializes in small incision and no-stich cataract surgery, medical and surgical glaucoma treatment, diabetic retinal disease, and dry eye. He also performs laser procedures for glaucoma, diabetes and secondary cataracts. He has made significant contributions to the field with research and publications. He was inducted into the Gold Humanism society for his interest and display of humanism in medicine. He also received the Resident Teaching Award while in Iowa for his dedication to training of medical students and junior residents. Additionally, he has shared his gift of doctoring in Mexico, Peru and India on missions trips.

He enjoys running, playing his violin with the Mid-Texas Symphony, serving in his church, hunting, fishing and any other outdoor activity.
