Dr. Acosta graduated with Honors from the University of Texas with a bachelor’s degree in Biology. She completed her medical training at the University of California, Los Angeles. While at UCLA she did a post junior fellowship in the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine. Dr. Acosta performed her internship in Internal Medicine in Los Angeles before returning to Texas.

She completed her Ophthalmology Residency at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio. She served as Chief Resident in her final year at UTHSCSA and currently maintains her connections with the University as an Assistant Clinical Professor of Ophthalmology. She has trained many surgeons and ophthalmology residents (medical eye doctors in training) state-of-the-art techniques of modern cataract surgery.

Dr. Acosta formed Eye Associates of Seguin in 2001, now its known as Eye Associates of South Texas. Since then the office has grown to include many other locations in the South Texas area. Her practice now spans eight counties of Texas, bringing high quality surgical and medical care to some of the rural patients of the great State of Texas. It is a philosophy of her practice to bring modern high-quality eye care closer to the patient’s home. As an eye physician and surgeon, Dr. Acosta offers comprehensive eye care for a wide age range. She performs cataract surgery with new astigmatism and presbyopia-correcting intraocular lenses and laser treatment for many eye diseases including diabetic retinopathy and glaucoma.

Dr. Acosta is an expert Laser Cataract surgeon, having been certified on the LENSAR laser. This gives her patients the opportunity to be glasses-free after cataract surgery. She currently also performs high quality all laser LASIK that is blade free with the latest Femtosecond and Excimer Laser Refractive Suite by Alcon.

Dr. Acosta is an expert in the treatment of dry eyes, having attained the award of Dry Eye Center of Excellence. She has a keen interest in the diagnosis and treatment of dry eyes and has incorporated dry eye centers in all of Eye Associates of South Texas’ major centers. Each has the ability to diagnose and treat Meibomian Gland Disease with Lipiview and Lipiflow a novel treatment by Johnson and Johnson. The practice also has the option to treat this condition with an IPL laser by Lumenis, the M22.

Dr. Acosta is a member of various organizations for medicine and ophthalmology including: the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the Texas Ophthalmology Association, the American College of Surgeons, the American Board of Ophthalmology, and the Texas Medical Association. She has also held positions in the local medical community, including secretary on the board and past president of the Guadalupe Medical Society. Dr. Acosta is the President of the San Antonio Society of Ophthalmology for 2019-2020 term.
