An ophthalmologist is a medical doctor (MD) with residency training in ophthalmology who are physicians who can perform routine eye examinations for glasses and contacts to very complex eye surgeries.

Eye Associates of South Texas was established over twenty years ago by Sharron Acosta MD and is a leading eye care practice with 11 locations, including 5 optometrists and 4 ophthalmologists providing the highest level of eye care in the South Texas Region.

All the doctors perform high-quality cataracts, blepharoplasty, and LASIK Surgery. Dr. Kavanagh was the first surgeon to implant many of the new IOL (intraocular lens) technology in San Antonio and surrounding cities (Seguin, New Braunfels, San Marcos, La Vernia, Hondo, Castroville, Luling, Lockhart, and Gonzales) giving his patients access to the most recent and best vision-enhancing technologies. He has performed over 25,000 cataract surgeries in his career including all Laser Cataract surgery using the LenSx and LENSAR laser platforms.

Eye Associates of South Texas has continually invested in new technology for their patients being one of the only practices to have the light adjustable lens by RxSight available to its patients who wish a better chance at 20/20 vision after cataract surgery than a standard lens. Dr. Kavanagh has experience in performing this surgery on patients with previous refractive surgery (LASIK, RK, and PRK).
