Eye Associates of Seguin

Eye Associates of Seguin

Eye Associates of Seguin. It’s been a little over twenty years since Eye Associates of South Texas was established as Eye Associates of Seguin. Born as a small ophthalmology office in the great city of Seguin, with the founder Sharron Acosta MD FACS and J.T. Kavanagh MD bringing world-class cataract and LASIK surgery to a World-Class City. As both the city of Seguin grew larger and the Eye Associates of Seguin grew to neighboring cities, we knew the name would have to change to reflect our many locations so Eye Associates of Seguin became Eye Associates of South Texas. We now have locations in San Antonio (North Central, Medical Center, and South San Antonio), New Braunfels, San Marcos, La Vernia, Luling, Lockhart, Gonzales, Castroville, Hondo, and of course our home Seguin, Texas.

As the number of locations has increased so have the number of ophthalmologists and optometrists we have on staff. We have eleven providers who can help with all your eye care needs.

We still like to offer small city hospitality to our world-class ophthalmology care. From eyeglasses or contacts to major surgeries for cataracts, refractive error(LASIK or PRK), glaucoma, or retina (macular degeneration or diabetic retinopathy) we can do it all!

Dr. Kavanagh was the first permanent glaucoma specialist serving the New Braunfels, Seguin, and San Marcos areas. His fellowship training has saved many patients from severe loss of vision from glaucoma. Dr. Kavanagh, Acosta, and Burns offer the finest cataract and LASIK surgery. Eye Associates of South Texas have the only permanent LASER CATARACT and LASIK centers between Austin and San Antonio. They have performed over 40,000 cataract procedures. They can perform premium cataract surgery with the latest premium lens implants: Panoptix, Vivity, Eyehance, Symphony, Synergy, and all the latest toric intraocular Lens (IOLS). This can mean that you can be eyeglasses and contacts free after cataract surgery for driving and reading.

Eye Associates of South Texas pledges to stay on the cutting edge of both your medical and surgical care. We participate in FDA surgical and medical trials so we can bring the latest innovations to our patients in all our hometowns!

PRIORITIZING YOUR EYE HEALTH AS YOU AGE

As we age, our risk of developing eye diseases increases significantly. In fact, one in six Americans aged 65 and older has a vision impairment that cannot be corrected with glasses or contact lenses. Conditions such as age-related macular degeneration (AMD), cataracts, diabetic retinopathy, and glaucoma are more prevalent in older adults and can lead to significant vision loss if not properly managed.

THE HEALTH EXAM YOU DIDN’T KNOW YOU NEEDED

Some of the leading causes of blindness—such as glaucoma or diabetic retinopathy—can begin without any symptoms. That’s why Eye Associates of South Texas and the American Academy of Ophthalmology urge all healthy adults to get an eye exam at age 40, even if their vision seems fine. Early signs of disease and changes in vision may start to happen at this age.

WOMEN’S EYE HEALTH & SAFETY MONTH

Prevent Blindness has designated April as Women’s Eye Health and Safety Month. This important initiative aims to increase awareness about eye diseases and conditions that disproportionately affect women.  Why are women at higher risk?  For some women, fluctuations in hormones due to pregnancy, perimenopause or menopause can bring on such changes.
