We all use sunscreen to protect our skin, but don’t forget to protect your eyes as well. Summertime means more time spent outdoors, and studies show that exposure to bright sunlight may increase the risk of developing cataracts and growths on the eye, including cancer. In South Texas the scar tissue (pterygium) that grows over the clear front surface of the eye are common, they can cause loss of vision or foreign body sensation in your eyes. Initial treatment includes the use of artificial tears, sunglasses, and steroid drops. If the pterygium gets too large it will need to be surgically removed. The ophthalmologists at Eye Associates of South Texas are experts at pterygium removal. All the Eye Doctors at our clinics can diagnose and treat dry eyes, pterygium, and cataracts in San Antonio, New Braunfels, La Vernia, Seguin, Luling, Lockhart, Gonzales, Hondo, and Castroville.  Call for an appointment today 830-379-3937.

THE HEALTH EXAM YOU DIDN’T KNOW YOU NEEDED
