About this location: Eye Associates of South Texas San Antonio Medical Center

We’re a state-of-the-art eye center in Bexar County. We’ve served San Antonio, Shavano Park, Boerne, Alamo Heights, Medical Center, Castle Hills, Leon Valley, Hollywood Park, and Leon Springs with the finest eye care for the past 12 years.

We provide both medical and surgical services. We have three eye doctors who are also board-certified ophthalmologists and surgeons. Dr’s. Acosta, Kavanagh, Psolka. They are all fellowship trained and offer the most advanced cataract, LASIK, glaucoma, and eyelid surgery.

Our ophthalmologists have performed more than 25,000 cataracts. We operate only in the best hospitals and surgery centers in Seguin, San Antonio (2 locations), Hondo and San Marcos. All patients are offered advanced premium intraocular lenses (ATIOL) and cataract laser surgery with our brilliant surgeons. These advanced high technology intraocular lenses enable the patient to see better without glasses most of the time. Our optometric team is composed of three optometric glaucoma specialists in Drs. Hammadeh, Jacob, Ehiem.

Dr. Kavanagh Eye Surgery

The optometrists work with our ophthalmologists to form a truly collaborative eye care team. Doctors from Eye Associates of South Texas were among the first to adopt new techniques in glaucoma surgery that are less invasive than older techniques and allow for faster recovery after surgery. These are called MIGS (Minimally Invasive Glaucoma Surgery). Dr. Kavanagh has a completed a glaucoma fellowship at the Unversity of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, where he is still on clinical faculty. Both Dr. Acosta and Dr. Kavanagh are Clinical Assistant Professors in the Department of Ophthalmology.

We have the latest diagnostic equipment at the San Antonio office, including Spectral Domain OCT, Zeiss IOL master, Topcon topographer, Humphrey and Heidelberg Visual Fields, Nidek Fundus Camera, DGH Pachymeter, A-B Scans, Flash ERG. These allow our eye doctors to be on the cutting edge of ocular diagnosis and treatment.

Our optical is full-service, meaning you can select the finest eyeglass frames and lenses from San Antonio. Our friendly opticians are always willing to help. We offer sunglasses from Costa, Ray-Ban and Wiley X.

If your local optometrist or eye doctor diagnoses you with a cataract, they can refer you to us for cataract surgery. Then with your agreemnet, we’ll work with your current eye doctor to get the best surgical results, called co-management of surgery. We will gladly provide you with our expertise if you need a second opinion on your cataract or cataract surgery.

Usually, your medical insurance covers cataract surgery, but you may choose to upgrade to a premium procedure. Using a laser for certain parts of cataract surgery and/or using premium advanced intraocular lens technology, will make the procedure premium. Your choice to have a premium procedure is your decision! One of our fantastic surgical counselors will carefully explain to you all your surgical options. Your insurance usually covers basic cataract surgery. Eye Associates doctors have performed tens of thousands of these basic cataract procedures.

Our doctors are experts in cataract surgery, laser cataract surgery, micro-invasive glaucoma surgery (MIGS), LASIK surgery, as well as corneal transplant surgery. All of our doctors manage glaucoma, macular degenerationdiabetic eye disease. They can also prescribe eyeglasses and contact lens. We have dry eye centers in all our main locations with access to Bleph-ex, lipiflow and IPL treatments.

All our physicians can also perform eyelid surgery. So if you have drooping or saggy eyelids or bags under your eyes, doctors can perform surgery to lift your eyelid or get rid of the “bags” under your eyes. This leads to a younger, less tired look and a better overall field of vision. They are also proficient in Botox and filler injections.

We’re always ready to help you with your eye emergencies. Examples of eye emergencies would include things like a pink eye, photophobia (light hurting eye), sudden loss of vision, and corneal foreign body.

But most importantly: the doctors with Eye Associates of South Texas are doctors, eye surgeons, optometrists, and ophthalmologists who are willing to help you achieve your goal of maintaining or achieving the best vision possible. We look forward to serving the San Antonio population for many years to come.

Thanks

Drs. Kavanagh, Acosta, Psolka, Hammodeh, Jacob, Ehiem.
