Eye Associates of South Texas is pleased to welcome Dr. Ankit Kadakia, a board-certified ophthalmologist specializing in cornea, cataract, and refractive surgery. Joining the practice in 2026, Dr. Kadakia brings advanced surgical training and a patient-centered approach to helping patients throughout South Texas achieve clearer vision and a better quality of life.
A Passion for Eye Care That Began Early
Raised in Kansas City, Dr. Kadakia developed an interest in medicine at an early age. While volunteering at local hospitals during high school, he discovered a passion for helping others through medicine.
He went on to earn his medical degree through the accelerated six-year BA/MD program at the University of Missouri–Kansas City (UMKC) School of Medicine, graduating at the top of his class.
Dr. Kadakia continued his training in ophthalmology at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston, where he completed his residency within the renowned Texas Medical Center. His residency provided extensive experience caring for patients with complex eye diseases, ocular trauma, advanced cataracts, and a wide range of general ophthalmic conditions.
Following residency, he pursued additional subspecialty training through a fellowship in Cornea, External Disease, and Refractive Surgery at the Illinois Eye and Ear Infirmary at the University of Illinois Chicago. This advanced fellowship training prepared him to perform sophisticated corneal, cataract, and vision-correction procedures.
Advanced Cataract Surgery and Vision Correction
For patients experiencing blurry or cloudy vision due to cataracts, Dr. Kadakia offers advanced cataract surgery using today’s intraocular lens (IOL) technology.
Depending on a patient’s eyes, lifestyle, and visual goals, premium lens options may include:
- Toric lenses for patients with astigmatism
- Multifocal lenses designed to provide vision at multiple distances
- Extended depth-of-focus (EDOF) lenses designed to expand the range of clear vision
These advanced lens options may help appropriately selected patients reduce their dependence on glasses following cataract surgery.
Dr. Kadakia also provides several refractive and vision-correction procedures, including LASIK and PRK, as well as refractive lens exchange and EVO ICL implantation. His goal is to develop an individualized treatment plan based on each patient’s eyes, lifestyle, and expectations for vision.
Specialized Cornea Care
As a cornea specialist, Dr. Kadakia treats conditions affecting the cornea and the ocular surface and performs advanced corneal transplantation procedures when necessary.
His surgical expertise includes:
- Penetrating keratoplasty (PKP)
- Descemet’s Stripping Automated Endothelial Keratoplasty (DSAEK)
- Descemet Membrane Endothelial Keratoplasty (DMEK)
He also performs minimally invasive glaucoma surgery (MIGS) for appropriate patients as part of comprehensive surgical eye care.
Whether a patient is considering cataract surgery, exploring options for vision correction, or requires specialized corneal care, Dr. Kadakia combines advanced surgical techniques with an individualized approach to treatment.
A Patient-Centered Approach to Better Vision
Dr. Kadakia believes that successful eye care begins by listening to the patient.
Every patient’s vision, lifestyle, and goals are different. Rather than taking a one-size-fits-all approach, he takes the time to understand what each patient hopes to achieve and uses that information to develop a personalized treatment plan.
By combining advanced ophthalmic technology, specialized surgical training, and individualized care, Dr. Kadakia strives to restore vision, improve quality of life, and help every patient achieve their best possible visual outcome.
