We are a state-of-the-art eye center in Comal County. We have been serving the residents of New Braunfels, Schertz, Converse, Marion, Seguin, Bulverde, Boerne, and Canyon Lake for the past 15 years with the finest eye care. We provide both medical and surgical services. We have three board-certified ophthalmologists and surgeons Drs. Acosta, Kavanagh, and Polka. They are all fellowship-trained and provide the finest cataract surgery, LASIK, glaucoma treatment, and surgery.

Our ophthalmologists have performed over 25,000 cataracts. We operate at only the best hospitals and surgery centers in Seguin, San Antonio (2 locations), Hondo, and San Marcos. All patients have the ability to have laser cataract surgery and advanced technology intraocular lenses (IOL). These new or advanced technology lenses allow the patient to see better without glasses most of the time.

Our optometric team are all optometric glaucoma specialists: Drs. Ckodre, Alanis, and Hammodeh. The optometrists work in tandem with our ophthalmologists for a truly collaborative eye care team. The doctors of Eye Associates of South Texas were some of the first to adopt new techniques in glaucoma surgery, that are less invasive than older techniques and allow faster recovery after surgery. Dr. Kavanagh is fellowship-trained in glaucoma.

We have the latest diagnostic equipment in the New Braunfels office including Spectral Domain OCT, Aladin IOL master, and topographer, Humphrey Visual Field, Zeiss Fundus Camera, DGH Pachymeter, ERG, A-B Scan. These allow our eye doctors to be on the cutting edge of eye examinations and treatment.

Our full-service optical means you may select from the finest eyeglass frames and lenses in New Braunfels. Our friendly opticians are always willing to help with fit and styling. We offer sunglasses including Costa, Ray-Ban, and Wiley X.

If your local optometrist or eye doctor diagnosis you with a cataract, they can send you to us for cataract surgery. We will then work with your permission, with your current eye doctor to get you the best surgical results, this is called co-management of the surgery. If you are in need of a second opinion about your cataract or cataract surgery, we will happily give you our expertise.

Cataract surgery is usually covered by your medical insurance, however, sometimes you may choose to upgrade to a premium procedure. The premium procedure may include the use of a laser to perform certain parts of the cataract surgery and/or the use of an advanced technology intraocular lens. This decision to have a premium procedure is your choice! We’ll educate you on all your surgical options with one of our fantastic surgical counselors. You should know the basic cataract surgery is usually completely covered by your insurance. The doctors of Eye Associates have performed tens of thousands of these basic cataract procedures.

In the arena of surgical care, our doctors are experts in cataract, laser cataract, Micro-Invasive Glaucoma Surgery (MIGS), LASIK, and corneal transplantation. Our doctors also can manage glaucoma, macular degeneration, diabetic eye disease, and dry eyes. We have dry eye centers in all our main locations with access to Bleph-ex, lipiflow, I- Lux and IPL treatments.

All our doctors can also perform eyelid surgery. So if you have drooping or saggy eyelids or bags under your eyes, the doctors can perform surgery to lift the eyelid or get rid of the “bags” found under your eyes. This results in a younger less tired appearance, as well as improving your total visual field.

Our doctors also provide routine eye care: glasses and contact lenses. We are always ready to help you with your eye emergencies. Some examples of eye emergencies would be things like a pink eye, photophobia (light hurting eye), sudden loss of vision or onset of floaters, and foreign body on the cornea.
