Welcome to the Eye Associates of South Texas’ ophthalmology office: San Marcos location. In Hays County, we have a state-of-the art eye care center, combining the best ophthalmologists and optometrists for miles around. For the past 20 years, we have provided the finest eye care to the people of South Texas, including residents of: Seguin, San Marcos, New Braunfels, Kyle, Buda, Lockhart and Luling. The original location of Eye Associates of South Texas was Seguin, Texas and over the last twenty years we have opened 11 locations (San Marcos, Seguin, New Braunfels, San Antonio Medical Center, San Antonio North Central, Castroville, Hondo, Luling, Lockhart and La Vernia).

We provide medical services as well as surgical services, from routine eye exams to Lasik and Cataract surgeries. We have three eye doctors who are also known as ophthalmologists and eye surgeons who are board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology. Drs. Acosta, Bui and Kavanagh. They are among the finest cataract, LASIK, glaucoma and eyelid surgeons in South Texas. Dr. Kavanagh has performed over 25,000 cataract surgeries, and he can perform them in your hometown of San Marcos.

We operate only in the best hospitals (Seguin and Hondo) and surgery centers (San Marcos, San Antonio). All patients with cataracts will have the opportunity to have the latest premium lenses (Panoptix, Vivity, Symfony, Eyehance) and their surgery performed Laser Cataract Surgery. These new or advanced intraocular lenses (IOLs) allow patients to see better most of the time without glasses. All members of our optometric team are also optomteric glaucoma specialists (Drs. Ckodre, Hammadeh, Patel and Quillin). Dr. Kavanagh was the first fellowship trained glaucoma specialist serving the counties of Comal, Hays and Guadalupe full-time.

Eye Associates of South Texas’ doctors were among the first to adopt new techniques in glaucoma surgery, which are less invasive than older techniques and allow for faster recovery following surgery. Dr. Kavanagh is a glaucoma specialist and fellowship trained.

Dr. Kavanagh Eye Surgery

In the arena of surgical care, our doctors are experts in cataract, laser cataract, Micro Invasive Glaucoma Surgery (MIGS), LASIK and corneal transplantation. Our doctors can also manage glaucoma, macular degeneration, diabetic eye disease, and dry eyes. We have dry eye centers of excellence in all our main locations with access to Bleph-Ex, lipiflow, and IPL treatments. If your eyelids are getting droopy we can fix that too, by an operation known as an eyelid lift or blepharoplasty.

In the office in San Marcos, we have the latest diagnostic technologies including: Spectral Domain OCT, Zeiss IOL Master, Zeiss Corneal Topography, Wavefront OPD-III Marco, Topcon Fundus Photography, Tear Osmolality, Inflammadry, Humphrey Visual Fields. These enable our eye physicians to be on the cutting edge of both exams and treatments.

Our optical is full service which means you can choose from the latest eyeglass frames and lenses. We have a wide selection of contact lenses for patients unique needs. We offer Costa,  Ray Ban, Maui Jim and Wiley-X sunglasses.

If you are diagnosed with cataracts by your local optometrist or eye doctor, they will usually send you to us for cataract surgery. Then we will work with your current eye doctor to get the best surgical results, which is called surgical co-management.

If you need a second opinion on your cataract or cataract surgery, we will gladly provide you with our expert opinion. Your medical insurance usually covers basic cataract surgery, but sometimes you may choose to use one of the new technology IOLs. At which point our surgical counsellors will educate you on both the selection of premium intraocular lens (IOLs) and laser cataract surgery. Our doctors have performed tens of thousands of cataract surgeries.

With your eye emergencies, we are always willing to help you. Some examples of eye emergencies are pink eyes, light sensitive eyes, sudden vision loss, sudden onset of floaters and corneal foreign bodies.

But most of all Eye Associates of South Texas doctors are surgeons, optometrists and ophthalmologists willing to help you achieve your goal of maintaining or achieving the best possible vision. We look forward to serving the San Marcos and surrounding cities of Kyle, Buda, Luling, Lockhart and New Braunfels for many years to come.

Thankyou,

Drs. Kavanagh, Acosta, Bui, Ckodre, Quillin, Patel and Hammadeh.
