Technis Synergy San Antonio Dr. Kavanagh implants first in San Antonio

Tecnis Synergy San Antonio. The recently approved Tecnis Synergy Intraocular lens was implanted by Doctor J.T. Kavanagh MD of Eye Associates of South Texas today. It was the first post-approval use of the new technology IOL during cataract surgery in South Texas (San Antonio). Dr. Kavangh is proud of the fact that he was the first surgeon in the area to use an IOL that will help his patients see without glasses at all distances. Having performed over 25,000 cataract surgeries he feels the new IOL will give patients the choice of a lens that will allow them to drive a car and read their smartphone again without reading glasses.

The Synergy IOL is a fusion of two technologies: Depth of Focus and Diffractive. This allows the lens to give patients the widest range of clear vision without glasses after cataract surgery. The intraocular lens is preloaded with the Technis Simplicity Delivery System which makes using the IOL very easy during cataract surgery for ophthalmic surgeons. The lens full-field diffractive technology means patients can read even in dim light conditions, which can mean no more reading glasses for menus in those poorly lit restaurants!

Tecnis Synergy San Antonio is a breakthrough piece of lens technology and Eye Associates of South Texas is proud to have been the first to offer this new technology to one of their cataract patients.

Dr. Kavanagh has offices in San Antonio, San Marcos, New Braunfels, Castroville, Hondo, Luling, Lockhart, Gonzales, La Vernia, and Seguin. He has surgery centers in San Antonio, San Marcos, Seguin and Hondo. Eye Associates of South Texas is celebrating 20 years of serving the South Texas community.

PRIORITIZING YOUR EYE HEALTH AS YOU AGE

As we age, our risk of developing eye diseases increases significantly. In fact, one in six Americans aged 65 and older has a vision impairment that cannot be corrected with glasses or contact lenses. Conditions such as age-related macular degeneration (AMD), cataracts, diabetic retinopathy, and glaucoma are more prevalent in older adults and can lead to significant vision loss if not properly managed.

THE HEALTH EXAM YOU DIDN’T KNOW YOU NEEDED

Some of the leading causes of blindness—such as glaucoma or diabetic retinopathy—can begin without any symptoms. That’s why Eye Associates of South Texas and the American Academy of Ophthalmology urge all healthy adults to get an eye exam at age 40, even if their vision seems fine. Early signs of disease and changes in vision may start to happen at this age.

WOMEN’S EYE HEALTH & SAFETY MONTH

Prevent Blindness has designated April as Women’s Eye Health and Safety Month. This important initiative aims to increase awareness about eye diseases and conditions that disproportionately affect women.  Why are women at higher risk?  For some women, fluctuations in hormones due to pregnancy, perimenopause or menopause can bring on such changes.
